Are you looking for the best burger in Napa? Then this post is for you. Napa is the best place for foodies, and this post takes a closer look at the top 10 burgers in Napa Valley.

The Best Burger in Napa Valley

Napa Valley is known for producing world-class wine and being home to many Michelin-starred restaurants. Some of the most famous restaurants in the world can be found here, the French Laundry, the Restaurant at Auberge and Press. These restaurants will deliver dishes and meals that some may consider to be once-in-a-lifetime experiences. But sometimes, there is only one dish that will truly satisfy a craving, a juicy, cheesy, messy, perfectly cooked burger. I have been to Napa several times, and while I do enjoy a fancy pants meal (or two, or three), there are many times after a long day of wine tasting when you just need to sink your teeth into a good ole burger. This post is all about where you can find the best burger in Napa.

Where to Find the Best Burger in Napa Valley: Keeping it Casual

Gott's Roadside Cheese burger is one of the best in Napa

There are so many fantastic restaurants in Napa, and there is only so much time. When I visit, I try to do a different type of cuisine for every dinner and then keep my lunch stops more casual or even picnic style. I tend to keep dinner pretty casual on my first night. After a long day of travel and a few wine tastings, the last thing I want to do is get dressed up for a fancy dinner. A classic burger with fries is my go-to meal. Below are my recommendations for super casual but incredibly delicious burgers in Napa.

Boon Fly Café

For me, a trip to Napa is not complete without a stop at Boon Fly Café. It’s a small lively restaurant located on the Carneros Resort property. Locals and in-the-know visitors, head to Boon Fly for rustic cuisine that’s served with a modern flair.

Their Akaushi Kobe Beef Burger is a must! It’s served on a house-made brioche bun and served with a side of fries or baby greens. You have the option to add extras like avocado, bacon, mushrooms and your choice of cheese. Just talking about it has me planning my next trip to Napa!

The burger is available during their daily brunch or dinner. If you do go during brunch, I highly suggest ordering their famous Boon Fly Donuts to start. They are bite-sized pillows of perfection, especially with the chocolate sauce.

Andies Cafe

What started as a food cart with a quest to bring the best burger to wine country, has turned into a local favorite. Andies Cafe is one of the hidden gems that visitors are slowly starting to find and with good reason. The burgers (well everything really) are incredible!

All burgers are 1/3 lb of fresh ground chuck. The meat is ground fresh daily, and every burger is cooked to order. One of the most popular burgers is the Marin. The juicy burger is topped with mushrooms, avocado, jack cheese, mayo, mustard, ketchup, lettuce, tomato, pickles and red onion. Served between a toasted potato bun. Are you drooling yet? I am.

I can’t come here and not go all out, and it’s too hard to decide between fries and onion rings, so I always get the Frings. Yep, frings a mix of fries and onion rings. Life is too short to decide. And don’t forget to add a milkshake or a root beer float, I promise you won’t regret it.

Gott’s Roadside

Gott's Roadside in Napa Valley has one of my favorite cheese burger in Napa

Gott’s Roadside is a staple in Napa. It was founded in 1999 by Joel and Duncan Gott. They are committed to local sourcing in everything from the ingredients they use to the wines and beers they offer.

My go-to order is a classic burger with American cheese. But if you prefer to be more adventurous, they have an extensive menu with options like the Kimchi burger. The Kimchi burger is topped with a fried egg, American cheese, bacon and spicy gochujang mayo. The menu is more than just burgers. Hot dogs, salads, tacos and other sandwiches are also available.

Stopping at Gott’s for dinner on my first night in Napa has become a tradition. It’s one of the best places for a high-quality meal without a high price tag.

Big D Burgers

If you are looking for a true fast-food style burger (you know, the old-fashioned kind served on a sesame seed bun?), then Big D’s is the place. While the burger patties are thin, they are full of flavor. And there are a bunch of different options for toppings! Everything from smoked ham, pineapple, and mozzarella on the Hawaiian to bacon, American cheese, and grilled onions with BBQ sauce on the Big D Burger.

If you want burger delivery, Big D’s is on DoorDash, which makes it super convenient.

Red Rock Cafe

I’m a St. Louis gal who’s been living in Kansas City for over 15 years. It’s safe to say, I have my opinions on BBQ. Red Rock Café, which turns into Back Door Barbeque at 4:30 pm daily, exceeds all expectations. It’s not often I crave BBQ when I’m outside the Midwest, but if the mood strikes in Napa, there is only one place I’m going- Red Rock Café.

For me, the sauce is the most important part of any good BBQ spot and the sauce at Red Rock is on point. All burgers are topped with Dijonaise, tomato, lettuce, pickles, and chopped red onions. To mine, I added American cheese, bacon, grilled onions, chilies and of course BBQ sauce. A lot of BBQ sauce. It was a mess, but the best kind of mess. Juicy, saucy, cheesy, a little spicy and so good. My best piece of advice for eating at Red Rock, wear sweats and make sure they’re not white.

The Best Burger in Napa: A Bit More Upscale

Downtown Napa has some fabulous restaurants and some of the best burgers in Napa

Sometimes the mood for a great burger strikes when you have plans for a meal that is a bit more upscale. Good thing Napa Valley is home to many fabulous restaurants where a burger lover is bound to find the burger of their dreams. Keep reading for where to find the best upscale burger in Napa.

Norman Rose Tavern

Norman Rose Tavern has an upscale atmosphere and a full bar. It’s a popular place for locals to come and unwind after work, so you know it’s gotta be good! The menu is full of familiar favorites, Buffalo Wings, Beef Chili, Beer Battered Fish and Chips, and of course burgers. They do have a classic burger, the NRT Premium Burger with your choice of cheese. But you have to try the Lamb Burger with garlic spinach and herbed goat cheese. Oh. My. Stars. If you’re a fan of goat cheese, you’ve got to give it a try!

I mentioned it had a full bar so it’s a great place for a cocktail, but when in Napa, I go for the wine. The wine list is impressive. With over 40 wines offered by the glass, it’s easy to find the perfect pairing for the delicious Lamb Burger.

Farmstead at Longmeadow Ranch

The menu at Farmstead is described as “American Farmhouse cuisine.” It features estate-grown produce, like beets, micro-greens, kale, and more. Other ingredients on the menu are sourced from the farm as well. This includes oil made from olive trees, honey, eggs, and even beef. It’s an elevated farm-to-table dining experience, which happens to be my favorite kind.

The grass-fed beef adds depth and richness to the burger making it oh-so juicy. The patty is topped with white cheddar, peppery arugula, and house-made pickles and served with a side of crispy potatoes. It’s simple and decadent on its own, but if you are feeling gluttonous, add crisp bacon and creamy avocado. Pair the burger with a glass of Napa Cabernet, and now we’re really talking! Honestly, I’m booking a ticket to Napa now.

Compline is a wine shop and tasting room in downtown Napa. Their wine list features over 500 handpicked wines, many of them local. In addition to great wine, they also have really fabulous food. The menu is small and everything is delicious. It features small bites like yellowfin crudo and lamb meatballs, as well as more substantial options like spaghetti carbonara and the Compline Burger.

The Compline Burger is topped with balsamic onions and aioli and served on a sesame seed bun from the famous Model Bakery. It’s fabulous on its own, but you HAVE to pair it with the duck fat fries. The fries and the burger together are epic, and a not to be missed Napa foodie experience.

R+D Kitchen

Yountville is the mecca of fabulous dining in Napa. It is also where you can find R+D Kitchen. The last time I was in Napa, I stopped here for lunch between tastings. It was the perfect spot to soak up the Napa sunshine, hydrate, and enjoy a leisurely lunch. The menu is pretty extensive. From sushi to meatloaf there is something for everyone. Even the burger lovers.

Their burger, the Honor Burger, is fresh ground chuck, melted cheddar cheese, and tomato. But then it’s topped with coleslaw. I had never had a burger topped with coleslaw, and to be honest, I’m not a coleslaw person usually, but it adds a nice crunchy creaminess. As a person who values texture in her meals, I thought this was a nice touch.

Goose & Gander

Goose & Gander is one of my favorite places in Napa. It’s the perfect spot for a romantic wine country dinner. What I love most is that while it does have a more upscale vibe, it’s not stuffy, quite the opposite, it’s very welcoming.

The menu is seasonally driven and takes gastropub fare to the next level. The burger is no exception. Made from grass fed beef and then topped with a layer of Gruyere cheese and bacon. A delicious remoulade is spread on the homemade brioche bun, and it’s finished off with Manhattan pickles. Duck fat fries are served alongside the delicious burger. Oh, but if that’s not enough, you can add a perfectly cooked duck egg or bone marrow! Yes, bone marrow on your burger. It’s something you should try, at least once. But I know for me, there is no going back, a bone marrow burger is the perfect burger.

I absolutely LOVE the California Wine Country, and on my last trip home (I live overseas) I visited three regions: Napa Valley, Sonoma County, and Livermore. Beautiful scenery, great wine, and fabulous food! As your list illustrates, you don’t need to restrict yourself to Michelin starred fine dining restaurants!
