What to Wear on a Mediterranean Cruise

There is a lot to consider when preparing your wardrobe for your Mediterranean Cruise, you’ll need cruise outfits for days at sea, outfits for your excursions (and possible pre/post nights), and you will need to plan for evening attire for dinners aboard the cruise ship.

Before you begin packing, it is a good idea to check your cruise line’s dress code and itinerary. In most cases, your Mediterranean cruise will have a Formal or Chic Evening. This could mean anything from a suite or dress pants and a collard shirt for men, and a cocktail dress to an evening gown for women.

The other evenings will have a casual or smart casual dress code.

What to Wear in Mediterranean Cruise Ports

When planning your outfits for your excursions in port cities, consider the activity and plan accordingly.

The most important thing to remember is to wear comfortable shoes. Save the high heels for the cruise ship. Opt for comfortable walking tennis shoes or sandals.

While comfortable clothing is acceptable, please keep in mind, that Europeans don’t wear workout wear or yoga pants- unless they are working out.

It is also a good idea to save your favorite local or sporting apparel for the ship. Wearing an “I LOVE NYC” t-shirt will alert pickpockets that you are a tourist.

Make sure to pack a lightweight shawl or pashmina to wear when visiting any religious buildings (you may be required to cover your shoulders).

Mediterranean Cruise Packing Guide

Below is a list of the most important items to pack for your Mediterranean cruise. Some of these items are specific for cruising the Mediterranean, while some items can be useful on any cruise.

1. Lightweight Clothing:

Pack breezy and comfortable outfits to beat the summer heat. Maxi dresses, shorts, tank tops, and light cover-ups are perfect for exploring the picturesque ports.

Recommended: This is a perfect light weight dress with over 1,700 5 star ratings

2. Swimwear:

Don’t forget your favorite swimsuits for days spent lounging by the pool or taking a dip in the crystal-clear Mediterranean waters.

Recommended: This is a beautiful suit and would be perfect for the Mediterranean.

3. Hanging Organizer:

The bathrooms are notoriously small. Using a hanging organizer will keep your space organized and bathroom countertops clean and clutter free.

Recommended: Use this over the door organizer to keep your stateroom clutter free

4. Comfortable Walking Shoes:

Save the stilettos for dinners aboard the ship. You will want comfortable walking shoes or sandals while exploring the charming towns and historic sites.

Recommended: These sandals are a great combination of style and comfort

A simple white shoe will go with nearly every outfit. They are also super chic.

Recommended: These white tennis shoes have over 3,500 5-star ratings

5. Evening Attire:

For elegant dinners and themed parties onboard, pack some chic evening wear and don’t forget a versatile wrap or shawl- the dining rooms can get chilly.

Check your cruise line itinerary for any dress code requirements.

Recommended: Look for pieces that you can wear again. This would be beautiful for your cruise and a black tie wedding.

6. Anti-theft Cross-body Bag:

Help protect yourself from the pickpockets and take an anti-theft bag with you on your excursions.

Recommended: This antitheft bag even has space for your water bottle

7. Suitcase:

It’s important to have reliable luggage when going on a cruise. A hard-shell case will provide the best protection for your belongings.

Recommended: Lightweight and durable suitcase. Just what you need for international travel

Important: You will need a carryon bag for your cruise embarkation day. Make sure you pack all the items you will need for the day you board your cruise

Recommended: The spinner wheels on the matching carryon makes this piece easy to maneuver

8. Reusable Water Bottle:

Stay hydrated and eco-conscious by bringing a reusable water bottle that you can refill throughout the trip.

Recommended: This water bottle doesn’t take up a lot of space and doesn’t leak

9. Seasickness Remedies:

If you’re prone to motion sickness, consider packing seasickness remedies like patches, wristbands or medication.

Recommended: I like the patches best. They’re waterproof and not as obvious as a wristband

10. Universal Power Adapter:

Ensure your devices stay charged with a universal power adapter suitable for various outlets.

Recommended: One of the highest rated adapters

11. Camera or Smartphone with Good Storage:

Capture every breathtaking moment with a high-quality camera or smartphone with ample storage.

Recommended: This camera not only takes beautiful still photos but it is beginner friendly

12. Magnetic Clips:

Have I mentioned that staterooms are small? Help keep it organized with these magnetic clips. They can be hung on the wall to hold documents like excursion tickets.

Recommended: These hooks kept me organized and the room decluttered. Game changer

13. Med Kit and Medications:

Carry a basic medical kit with essentials like band-aids, pain relievers, and any prescription medications you may need.

Recommended: This medicine kit is perfect for travel. 83% of the nearly 8,000 reviewers agree

14. Packing Cubes:

These are a must-have item to keep you organized. They come in a variety of colors and sizes and have a laundry pouch and shoe bag. And they make packing and unpacking a breeze.

Recommended: These packing cubes are a travel essential for me

15. Magnetic Hooks:

Staterooms are quite small, and lack in storage space. These hooks create extra space. Use them to hang purses, belts, or wet towels and swimsuits.

Recommended: I couldn’t live without these hooks. They are belong on every cruisers packing list
