What makes the Dominican Republic Such a Tourist Hotspot

With its stunning white-sand beaches, crystal-clear turquoise waters, and vibrant culture, the Dominican Republic is paradise for beach enthusiasts and adventure seekers alike. From exploring lush landscapes and historic sites to indulging in luxury resorts, the country offers a diverse array of experiences that leave an indelible mark on every visitor.

There are so many different activities and experiences that you can have in the Dominican. Some of the most popular experiences include whale watching, golf, water activities, exploring the parks and learning the history with a visit to Santo Domingo.

Whale watching is one of the best activities to experience in the Dominican Republic

Whale Watching

From January to March, near the area of Samana, you can take a boat excursion to watch for migrating humpback whales. Round out your trip to the Marine Mammal Sanctuary area with a visit to the Museo de las Ballenas located in Santa Barbara de Samana to learn more about the whales and their migration patterns.

To make the most out of your whale watching excursion, don’t forget your binoculars.

Recommended: These are great for adults and kids

Golf

With over 25 beautiful courses from which to choose, golf is a top activity of choice for visitors. Try one of the Pete Dye courses like top-ranked Teeth of the Dog in La Romana with almost half of its holes along the coral formations of the coast of the Caribbean Sea. Maybe you want to try to golf your way through mangroves at the Bavaro Resort Lake Course. The Corales Golf Club has gained popularity after it was the first course in the Dominican Republic to host a PGA tour event.

You’ll be able to rent golf clubs, so don’t feel like you need to haul yours with you. But you might want to pack a chic new outfit for the golf course.

Recommended: These have shorts underneath with a pocket for your phone and a pocket for golf balls

Water Sports

For those that like sports above the water, there are a variety of options. You can try your hand at wind surfing or kitesurfing with steady winds to help as you learn the techniques. Many resorts will also offer paddleboarding, kayaks or banana boats.

Scuba diving is another fantastic water sport to do while in the Dominican Republic. Divers will enjoy a vacation in the summer months between June and September with waters that are calm and good visibility. And they will also enjoy mild temperatures that average between 75º and 84º Fahrenheit. Enjoy colorful marine life, explore shipwrecks, and even try wall dives along coral reefs near Saona and Catalina islands.

Keep your items waterproof and safe while you are having fun in the water, don’t forget to pack a waterproof pouch.

Immerse Yourself in Nature

For the nature lover, consider an adventure to one of the many waterfalls in Puerto Plata like Damajagua Falls otherwise known as the 27 waterfalls. Discovered in the 1990s, the area has grown to be a fun off-the-beaten-path experience. Spend the day jumping and sliding off the falls and relaxing in the natural pools.

Make sure to pack hiking boots for more adventurous hikes to help protect your ankles.

Recommended: These are the #1 Best Seller. Lightweight and waterproof

If you plan on getting in the water, you will want to protect your feet from any sharp rocks. Make sure to take some lightweight water shoes with you.

Recommended: These are extremely lightweight and hardly take up any room

Santo Domingo

Explore the history of the capital city through its beautiful architecture and see where the “new world” be- gan with its discovery by Christopher Columbus. See why it is designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site as you visit the first customs house, cathedrals and museums or just wander down the first paved roads. It is a must-see for even the most discerning traveler.

When traveling outside of your resort, I would recommend wearing comfortable and casual clothing. Leave the swim suit and cover up at the resort. Opt for breezy tops and shorts or a summer dress.

Recommended: This one is extremely versatile and can be dressed up or down
